Bardia National Park is located in Nepal’s western plain lands, east of the Karnali River, covering an area of 968 sq.km. It is the largest and most undisturbed protected area in the Terai, home to many endangered species including tiger, wild elephant, rhinoceros, swamp deer, blackbuck, gharial crocodile, marsh mugger crocodile and Gangetic dolphin. The enchanting birds found here are Bengal florican, lesser florican, Silver-eared mesia and Sarus Crane. The national park is full of open grasslands and glades ‘making it an ideal place for game-viewing. This park is famous for elephant safari or jungle drive. During jungle safari or elephant safari you will come across small herds of wild elephants. You will see rhinoceros also in the park. Here you can gain an experience of your life time. While doing the jungle safari you can observe 30 different mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and varieties of reptiles and aquatic animals.

For pleasurable sight-seeing you should be in Sukarmala from where you can see the panoramic view of Surkhet valley and the elongating plains of the Terai. Here you will have the opportunity of for fishing masher, a large game fish.

Trip Itinerary

Day Highlights
Day 1

On your arrival at Nepalgunj Airport, our staff will receive you. You will then be transferred to our Lodge where you will be offered refreshment and be given a briefing on our lodge and its facilities. After being given your programs for the day your room will then be allocated to you.
15:00: Village tour to a nearby ethnic Tharu village where you will learn more about the life and life style of the Tharus.
20:00: Dinner

Day  2

06:00: Wake up call
06:00: Breakfast
07:00: Elephant ride (for an hour), an excellent opportunity to get the lifetime experience on the elephant back and to see the wildlife of the Park. Visit to visitor Center, Crocodile Breeding Center and Tharu Cultural Museum.
13:00: Lunch
15:00: Jungle Walk. An excellent opportunity to see the wild animals, small mammals, birds and waits in the tower (Machan) to have the wild sightseeing, accompanied by our experienced naturalists and wild life tracker. Excellent photographic opportunities are plentiful.
20:00: Dinner

Day 3

06:00: Wake up call
06:00: Breakfast
07:30: Tiger Tracking and Bird Watching. An excellent opportunity to see a Royal Bengal tiger and a great many species of birds found in Bardia.
13:00: Lunch
14:30: Jeep Drive. An excellent opportunity to see wild animals and you will also encounter many other smaller mammals that have made Bardia their home.
20:00: Dinner

Day 4

06:00: Wake up call

07:00: Visit to Karnali River for Dolphin Sightseeing

13:00: Departure for onward Journey

Comfortable Safari clothes and shoes made for easy walking are recommended. Jungle colors such as beige, brown, khaki and green are least disturbing to the environment and therefore most appropriate. For visits during March to early October, light summer clothing is needed and rain gear is useful. During November to February, sweaters and warm jackets are required for mornings and evenings.

We recommend you to travel light and carry following accessories with you. - Binoculars add greatly to your enjoyment of wildlife viewing. - Personal medical requirements, insect repellent, sunscreen, hats, caps and sunglasses. We also sell insect repellents at the lodge and camps just in case you forget to pack one. We recommend not to use fragrance or deodorants or talcum as this might attract insects.

By Air - It is around 1-hour flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and 2hr drive (72 Kilo Meter) from Nepalgunj to Bardiya National Park. By Local Transportation - It takes around 15hrs to reach Bardiya National Park from Kathmandu. By Private Car - If you take a private cab, it takes you around 13hrs to reach there. Drive Distance from Kathmandu - It is about 570 Kilo Meter (356 Miles) away from Kathmandu ( Tribhuvan International Airport)

The best time to visit Bardia National Park is from mid-September till mid-December and the starts of February till the end of May. During these months day temperatures vary between 25 up to 37 degrees and animals will move to the river to drink which gives you better chances to spot them. From mid-December onwards till the end of January it can be more chilly and sometimes we have foggy weather. The monsoon brings hot and sticky days and starts in June and lasts till the end of August. The rising river levels can make access to the park difficult.
